Betting On Yourself

I’ll never forget a trip I took to Vegas when I was about 25 years old...

I had decided before I even got there that I was going to win playing a high dollar slot machine.  My boyfriend and I were there to attend the wedding of a friend and right after we got settled in our room, I told my boyfriend we needed to find the high dollar machines.  A friend of ours decided to tag along. I told him what we were doing, but I didn’t tell him I knew I was going to win, only that we were on our way to find the high dollar machines so I could play.  Once we weaved in and out of the aisles in the casino, we finally found the high dollar slot machines.  I walked intently up to one, put in my $20 bill, and jackpot!  I won $200.  I grabbed my $200 and walked away.  I’ll never remember our friend’s reaction.  He didn’t know what had just happened.  He kept saying, “it was like you knew you were going to win!”  He could not get over how I just walked up to the slot machine, put in my $20 winning with calm and conviction and then casually walked away like, yep!  That was the plan.  He literally couldn’t stop talking about it the whole trip.  Even to this day, over 20 years later, he still brings it up.  

 

If only I had been so certain of my capacity to live a naturally, healthy fit life back then.  But, I was far from certain, usually spinning in confusion about all the opposing noise in the media, chasing the latest fad diet, fearing carbs like they were the devil, obsessing about what I wasn’t, hiding it all pridefully and feeling stuck all the way into my late 30’s up until my early 40’s.  But, once I finally bet on myself like that trip in Vegas with the slot machine and doubled down on myself, that was the secret sauce.  Learning how to let go of my limiting beliefs, how to embrace my emotions vs. eating them and how to stay committed long term without feeling like I was sacrificing in the process, FINALLY, all bets were on me

 

Have you ever considered what betting on yourself could look like?  Like, if you went ALL IN on yourself, never looking back, knowing with certainty that you WILL succeed with your goals to live a naturally, healthy fit life?  What if you doubled down on yourself, your health, wellness and/or weight loss goals?  Consciously taking the driver’s seat and not allowing your limiting beliefs about your potential run the show.  Building confidence not by always winning, but by pushing through when times got tough.  Deciding on purpose, what you want, where you are going and creating a plan how you will get there.  That you refuse to shame or guilt yourself any longer and decide, you have your own back.  Betting on yourself confidently, with certainty like a Vegas bet you know you are sure to win.  No doubt in your mind. No question in your mind.  You WILL succeed.  Knowing, no matter what, if you simply just don’t stop, YOU WILL meet your goals. Sometimes, it’s not our own beliefs that get us there.  More often than not, we need to borrow beliefs from others. So, if borrowing my belief gives you that little nudge, please.  Borrow as much as you need.
