The Last 10 Pounds Roadblock: Habitual, Emotional and Mindless Eating
May 20, 2024If you struggle to lose the last 10 lbs OR to lose weight in general, you are more than likely dealing with one, if not all of these things…
Habit eating…
Emotional Eating…
and/or…
Mindless Eating.
Habit eating is simply when we eat out of habit. For example: You eat at a certain time of day even if not hungry. Or maybe you are triggered to overeat calorie dense foods in your favorite Italian restaurant. Or, you find yourself treating yourself more so around certain individuals. Or you have macros left in your MFP app, and as a habit, you cue yourself to hit the fridge. Our brains LOVE habits and routines. Even if they don’t serve us, it's no wonder we find ourselves going for that second piece of cake at the family's birthday parties, because that’s what we’ve always done and trained ourselves habitually to do.
Emotional Eating is when we turn to foods for comfort and self soothe. Many of us find ourselves doing this when we are stressed, sad, angry, overwhelmed or even bored. In order to ‘feel better’, we seek solace in foods to give us that dose of self love. Ironically, many times it has the opposite effect and in actuality just makes us feel worse. Temporarily, yes, we feel pleasure eating the Oreos, but after the whole sleeve is gone, along with whatever else we decide to nibble on, our tummy hurts and we immediately start to judge and punish ourselves with our thoughts. Now, that short term pleasure feels awful.
Mindless Eating occurs when you aren’t present while eating. It’s almost like you are a zombie eating anywhere than here mentally. This can show up in multiple ways. Like, when you finish your lunch so fast, you don’t even feel satisfied and you immediately end up back in the pantry looking for snacks. Or, when you aren’t present during a meal, enjoying it, only thinking about your day’s tasks or responsibilities and/or your next meal and/or dessert. Or, this even shows up when you are emotionally eating, snacking without even realizing it until the bag of chips, cookies, multiple protein bars and such are gone.
Ok, so I hear you... This is you, but now the question is how do you stop yourself from self sabotaging like this in the future. You need these three things… Awareness, Practice and Patience. So, now that you have the awareness, next comes the practice and patience. With an intentional plan and a support system that ‘gets you’, anything is possible. Ultimately, you need to expand your mind and decide you CAN be free and you deserve more. This is what I teach my clients. A step by step process to freedom and self exploration that has less to do with food and fitness (yes, we go there, but most of you already have those skills), and more so to do with empowering our minds to transform (the missing, necessary piece). To say it makes the journey so much easier and effective is a vast understatement.
If you’re ready to become the boss babe of your life, and transform from the inside out, fill out my coaching application below and let’s open up to living into your true capacity as a naturally healthy fit woman. The truth is, we don’t get what we deserve, we get what we tolerate. Give yourself permission to live the life you’ve always dreamed of, in a body you adore.

Monique
